We had a main line drain clog under the house. Russell was our technician and approached the problem from outside the house, working retrograde from a trap in the front yard. I was skeptical but it worked when my efforts with a cable inside the house had failed. He was very professional and pleasant to deal with.  We asked him to install a cleanout closer to the house for future use and we were very satisfied with the work.

Tyler is the best! He came to our parent's house, knew exactly what the problem was, and explained it to us without the typical guesswork. I'd recommend him any time you need a good plumber.

Understanding Indoor Humidity

Humidity refers to the amount of moisture in the air, and indoor humidity is about how much water vapor is present inside your home. This moisture level is expressed as relative humidity, which measures the current amount of moisture in the surrounding air compared to the maximum amount it can hold at a given temperature. Maintaining a balanced indoor humidity level is important because it impacts your comfort, your health, and the structural integrity of your home. High indoor humidity makes your home feel warmer than it actually is, which can lead to increased use of air conditioning. This, in turn, can strain your system and hike up energy bills. Low indoor humidity can leave your home feeling chilly and dry and affect your comfort and health as well. Service Hero can help by making sure that your HVAC system is working efficiently. Regular air conditioning repair or even an AC replacement by a trusted HVAC company can help keep your indoor humidity balanced throughout the year.

Ideal Indoor Humidity Levels

The ideal indoor humidity level is most often between 30% and 50%. Levels below 30% can dry out your skin, irritate your nasal passages, and exacerbate respiratory issues. Low humidity can also cause wood flooring and furniture to crack or warp. On the other hand, humidity levels above 50% can make your home feel stuffy and could promote the growth of mold, mildew, or dust mites. Achieving the ideal humidity level requires a balance that considers seasonal changes and your home's specific needs. In the summer, the combination of heat and high humidity can make indoor spaces feel oppressive. An effective air conditioning system would cool the air and help reduce excess moisture. During winter, heating your home can dry out the air, making it necessary to use humidifiers or adjust your HVAC settings to add some moisture back. However, if your system isn’t performing as it should, it might be time for air conditioning repair or an AC replacement or repair from a reliable HVAC company.

Signs Your Home’s Humidity is Off

Are you wondering if your home’s humidity is out of balance? There are a few clear signs to watch for. If you often find condensation on windows or glass doors, it’s a sign that your indoor humidity is too high. Excessive moisture can also cause walls to feel damp or sticky, and you might notice a musty smell. High humidity can also worsen allergy symptoms and lead to respiratory issues, as mold spores and dust mites thrive in moist environments. If your home feels excessively dry, you may experience frequent static shocks, dry skin, or even nosebleeds. Low humidity can also damage wooden furniture, musical instruments, and hardwood floors. If you notice these symptoms, it’s a good idea to consult an HVAC company to evaluate your system. Often, a simple air conditioning repair or an AC replacement can improve your indoor air quality by managing humidity levels more effectively.

Managing Moisture

One of the most effective ways to manage humidity is to ensure your HVAC system is in good working order. Regular maintenance, such as air conditioning repair and, when necessary, AC replacement, can enhance your system’s ability to control moisture levels. Dehumidifiers are a valuable tool in managing indoor humidity, especially in areas that are exposed to excess moisture, like basements and bathrooms. During the drier winter months, a humidifier can add needed moisture to the air, helping to prevent dry skin, static electricity, and other issues associated with low humidity. Proper ventilation is another important component in controlling indoor humidity. Using exhaust fans in high-moisture areas will remove excess moisture from the air. Simple steps like fixing leaks, using weather stripping, and keeping gutters clean can all contribute to a more balanced environment.
