Amy Grant

It was so easy to schedule this appointment online and the service happened quickly. I sent my online request on Friday night and Henry was at my door first thing Saturday morning. Henry was courteous, polite, and friendly and explained what needed to be done. The first repair made didn’t 100% solve our toilet issue, so he made sure to recheck everything and ended up replacing a part that he needed to go out and get. Henry was respectful of my time and my home and I appreciate that. Will definitely use this company again!

When your heater stops working on a freezing night, it can be frustrating and dangerous. If your heating system fails at the worst possible moment, a heating repair can save you from a miserable night and possible damage to your home. Service Hero is here to make sure you don’t have to suffer through an unexpected breakdown. Are you wondering whether your heating issue requires an emergency service? Some heating issues need attention right away, while others can wait for a scheduled appointment. Keep reading to find out when you need an urgent repair and when you might have a little more time.

When Your Unit Stops Working Completely

One of the most obvious signs of an emergency is when your heater completely shuts down. If your home suddenly loses heat and there’s no response from the unit when you adjust the thermostat, something is probably wrong. Before calling a professional, you can check to see if the circuit breaker has tripped. If not, then you may have a failed ignition system, a damaged blower motor, or a clogged filter that’s causing it to overheat. In cold temperatures, waiting too long to fix a failure can lead to unsafe indoor conditions and frozen pipes.

We Provide Professional Plumbing & HVAC Services

Tailored services to meet your specific needs and budget, ensuring optimal performance and comfort.

The Smell of Gas or a Gas Leak Warning

Any sign of a gas leak is an emergency. Natural gas has an additive that smells like sulfur or rotten eggs to alert homeowners to problems. If you notice this odor, then leave your home immediately and call your gas company. Once the gas has been shut off and it’s safe to return, you can contact an HVAC company in Brea, CA to inspect your heating system. A cracked heat exchanger or a failing burner assembly can lead to leaks. Do not try to fix or inspect these issues yourself. A professional will have the experience and equipment to handle it safely.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Going Off

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be deadly in high enough concentrations. If your detector is making sounds, it’s important to take the warning seriously. Get everyone out of the house as soon as possible, open the windows to let in fresh air, and call emergency services. After the immediate danger has been taken care of, you’ll need to schedule an inspection. Cracked heat exchangers and ventilation issues are common causes of CO leaks in furnaces. Routine maintenance can help prevent this hazard.

Loud Noises Coming from Your Unit

Furnaces should operate with a low, steady hum. If you hear rattling, screeching, or banging, something inside your system isn’t working correctly. Different sounds can point to different issues:

  • Banging: A delayed ignition might cause gas to build up and lead to small explosions inside the system.
  • Rattling: Loose screws, panels, or internal parts might be shaking when the unit runs.
  • Squealing and Screeching: A failing blower motor or worn-out belt could be the cause.

These noises won’t go away on their own, and waiting to loong to repair them can cause premature system replacement. If your unit is making strange sounds, a professional can provide a furnace repair.

Cold Air Blowing Instead of Heat

Does your heater blow cold air? A faulty thermostat, clogged air filter, or malfunctioning ignition system could be the reason why. Leaking ducts might also be allowing heat to escape. If your system is running, but your home isn’t warming up, then professional troubleshooting is probably needed. You might need a repair if the issue is related to the heat exchanger or ignition.

Water Leaks Around Your System

Have you noticed water pooling around your heater? This is not normal, and it could indicate a very serious issue. High-efficiency systems can produce condensation, which should be draining properly. If you notice water leaks, a blocked drain line or a cracked heat exchanger might be to blame. Ignoring leaks can cause mold growth, rusted components and electrical hazards. A quick response from a local HVAC company can repair the problem and prevent more serious issues from developing.

Turning On and Off Too Often

Does your system turn on, run for a short time, then shut off before completing a full heating cycle? This can reduce energy efficiency, and put unnecessary stress on your system. Possible causes include a malfunctioning thermostat, a failed blower motor or overheating from clogged filters. Short cycling can eventually lead to a complete system failure, so it’s best to get it checked out sooner rather than later.

When Heating Problems Impact Your Health

Heating issues will make your home uncomfortable, but they can also have a serious impact on your health and that of your loved ones. A failing heater can lead to poor indoor air quality that triggers respiratory issues, as well as unsafe humidity levels. It can also expose you to dangerous fumes like carbon monoxide. If you or your family experience dizziness, headaches, or breathing problems that get worse indoors, then your HVAC service in La Habra, CA system might be the culprit. An inspection can help identify whether your system is circulating pollutants or failing to ventilate.
