We had a main line drain clog under the house. Russell was our technician and approached the problem from outside the house, working retrograde from a trap in the front yard. I was skeptical but it worked when my efforts with a cable inside the house had failed. He was very professional and pleasant to deal with.  We asked him to install a cleanout closer to the house for future use and we were very satisfied with the work.

Tyler is the best! He came to our parent's house, knew exactly what the problem was, and explained it to us without the typical guesswork. I'd recommend him any time you need a good plumber.

Why Excess Moisture is a Big Deal

Most people associate high humidity with discomfort, but the problems go much deeper than that. High moisture levels can cause serious damage to your home and even impact your health. When your home consistently has too much humidity, you may start noticing signs like musty odors, condensation on windows, and even visible mold growth on walls or ceilings. Mold thrives in areas with high moisture, and once they begin growing, they can cause severe damage to your home's structure. On top of that, mold spores in the air can trigger asthma, allergies, and other respiratory issues, which makes controlling indoor humidity even more important. Humidity also encourages the proliferation of dust mites, which are another common trigger for allergies. In addition to health and structural problems, too much moisture can negatively affect your home’s energy efficiency. A home with high humidity feels warmer, which can cause you to run your air conditioner more often, leading to higher energy bills. If this sounds familiar, you might find yourself looking for air conditioning repair more often than you’d like. A whole home dehumidifier can help you manage moisture levels and reduce the burden on your AC system.

What Exactly is a Whole Home Dehumidifier?

A whole home dehumidifier is a device that’s installed directly into your home’s HVAC system to regulate humidity levels throughout your entire house. Unlike a portable dehumidifier, which can only handle one room at a time, a whole home dehumidifier works to support your HVAC system and make sure that every corner of your home is comfortable and moisture-free. This system automatically senses when the humidity in your home reaches a certain level and activates to remove the excess moisture from the air. The dehumidifier pulls in air, removes the water vapor, and sends dry, comfortable air back into your home.

Installing and Maintaining a Whole Home Dehumidifier

The installation of a whole home dehumidifier is a pretty straightforward process, but it’s important to have it done by a professional HVAC company. The unit needs to be integrated with your existing HVAC system, and it requires proper sizing to make sure that it can handle the moisture levels of your home. Service Hero can help you choose the right dehumidifier based on your home’s square footage, climate, and current HVAC system. Once installed, maintaining your dehumidifier is relatively easy. Most units require minimal maintenance, such as checking the air filters regularly and cleaning the drain line to prevent clogs. It’s a good idea to schedule routine check-ups with your HVAC company to ensure the system is working as efficiently as possible and to catch any issues early on.

The Many Benefits of a Whole Home Dehumidifier

Now that you know how a whole home dehumidifier works, here are just a few of the benefits it offers to homeowners:

  • Improved Comfort and Air Quality: A home with balanced humidity levels feels more comfortable, even at higher temperatures. When you eliminate excess moisture from the air, it becomes easier for your body to cool off, meaning you won’t feel the need to crank up the AC as much.
  • Increased HVAC Efficiency: When there’s too much humidity in your home, your air conditioner has to work harder to cool the air. Installing a whole home dehumidifier eases the strain on your AC system. This helps your HVAC system run more efficiently, which means fewer breakdowns and lower energy bills.
  • Prevention of Mold and Mildew: As we mentioned earlier, high humidity can lead to mold growth, which can cause damage to your home and negatively affect your health. A whole home dehumidifier helps prevent mold by keeping moisture levels in check, protecting both your home and your family from the harmful effects of mold and mildew.
  • Protection of Your Home and Belongings: Excess moisture can also wreak havoc on your home’s materials and furniture. Wood floors, drywall, and even your electronics can suffer from long-term exposure to humidity. A dehumidifier helps protect your investment in your home and the items within it.
  • Lower Energy Costs: Because your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard to cool your home, you’ll notice a decrease in your energy bills. When paired with regular HVAC maintenance, a whole home dehumidifier can reduce the frequency of AC repair needs and help you save money on both energy consumption and repair costs.
